Rebate Opportunity with Quaker

At the end of last month, I posted about an opportunity to try Quaker Oatmeal Squares cereal for free.  Well, Quaker is at it again:
 

For the month of February, Quaker is offering a $5 rebate if you spend $15 on Quaker products.  Unlike many manufacturer's rebate opportunities, you do NOT have to purchase all of the products in a single shopping trip.  This rebate is valid on Old Fashioned Quaker Oats, Instant Quaker Oatmeal, Oatmeal Squares, Grits and & Whole Hearts Products.

You will have to use your Facebook account to sign up for SavingStar first.  This will require you to register your CVS, Rite Aid, Kroger, or Kessel loyalty cards with them. This will be the way they track your spending for the month of February.  After you register, you can track your progress by clicking on the SavingStar Facebook page.  Once you hit the goal price of $15, you can choose whether you'd like the money to go to your bank account, PayPal account, Amazon.com gift card, or donation to a charity.

DO NOTE that the rebate offer is available in "limited quantities" so it would be best to print out your rebate form ASAP before they run out.

Britagate Update

Well, it looks like Brita has heeded the many rants and ravings of the couponers of America...

You might remember from earlier posts that I mentioned quite the deal on Brita water filtration pitchers.  There is a $4 coupon in Smart Source and the Brita corporation put out a $10 rebate on their water filtration pitchers as well.  So by purchasing a pitcher, you actually stand to MAKE money.  Then over the past few days, there seemed to be some tumult over whether or not Brita was actually going to honor this rebate.  Guess they folded:



So, ladies in gentlemen...prepare thy rebates.  And send them in.  They will be honored--until Brita changes their mind again.

Behold the carnage that is...Brita-gate:

Many of you have seen posted here on Dirt Cheap Detroit (and on pretty much every other couponing blog out there) that Brita had a mail-in rebate on their water filtration pitchers for $10.  If you combine that with the $4 coupon available in this week's Smart Source, you stood to make a PROFIT of $4 - $6 just by purchasing a water filtration pitcher.  Well, I guess Brita didn't take too kindly to that idea and now the rebates printed and mailed off to Brita are null and void.

Brita isn't giving any definitive answers, but they have made it clear that they have no intention to uphold their end of the rebate agreement.  Here is a snippet of one of the MANY customer queries/complaints on the Brita Facebook page:



Their Facebook page is being blitzed by customer complaints.  Some are threatening to call the FTC, the BBB, and a few initials that I haven't heard of...others are threatening a class action law suit.  However this works out, I'm thinking Brita isn't gaining any loyal fans by nixing their $10 rebate--especially when that rebate deal is supposed to be effective until March 31st.

A few posters on Facebook are blaming couponers...say what?  I am 100% certain that Brita did not intend for consumers to make a profit off of their product (they are in a profit-making business after all); however, you can't blame the consumer for Brita's errors.  If a store makes an error when advertising a price for a product, you can't blame the customers standing in line with the product for wanting to capitalize on the deal that THE STORE advertised.  I am a little more sympathetic when this sort of thing occurs at a mom and pop shop, but when a multibillion dollar business (with their cavalcade of accountants, lawyers, and marketing reps) flubs with their advertising...I, for one, am a bit less forgiving.

Brita Freebie Update

Sooooo, in light of the moneymaker deal on the Brita Basic water filtration pitcher, I thought I'd head over to my local Walmart to get lucky.  I was not lucky.  I was beyond unlucky.  Not only was my local Walmart out of the coveted $8.97 Brita Basic water filtration pitcher, but (as the kindly salesperson informed me) the other two Walmarts within a 30-minute drive were also out of the pitcher.

To complicate things a bit further: if you look on the Walmart website, all of the pitchers under $12 have been snatched up.  So, apparently couponing is a competitive sport. 

Heartbroken, defeated even--I headed over to Meijer to see if they had any comparably priced pitchers.  I hadn't seen any of the other couponing websites mention Meijer so I didn't get my hopes up.  But...Meijer has them.  AND they are only a couple pennies higher than the Walmart price :)  So, if any of you ladies are interested in picking one up, try Meijer.

Yep.  The purchase of a Brita water filtration pitcher is actually putting $5 back into your pocket.   Note that the rebate offer used to be available on the Brita website, but it was taken down shortly after this week's sales on Brita water filtration pitchers began.  It is available on this link and will probably not be there for very long.  Also, you have to keep in mind that these Brita water filtration pitchers will probably sell out fairly quickly this week--so get yours while you still can!
